Niklaus Wirth was born in Zurich, Switzerland on August 10, 1930. He is a Swiss computer scientist who designed the Pascal programming language along with the first version of the UNIX operating system. In 1978, Wirth was honored as a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery. In 1991, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from ETH Zurich
He is currently a professor at ETH Zurich and is a member of the Academia Europaea.
